Indian Whisky[]
The most popular distilled alcoholic beverage in India is scotch-style whisky. These whiskies were introduced to India in 19th century under British rule. The first production of whisky from malted grains in India occurred in 1982 when the Amrut Distilleries decided to create a premium whiskey from a combination of malted and unmalted barley. Whisky has recently become very fashionable among affluent Indians.
Additionally, India also produces distilled beverages name "whisky" which are blended from neutral spirits distilled from fermented molasses with only a small portion of traditional malt whisky. Most outside of India would call this a rum.
