Fettercairn 13 Old Malt Cask Edit

The Fettercairn 13 is a single cask, highland single malt, distilled in March 1991 and matured in refill hogshead number 1327 for 13 years before bottling in January 2005 by Douglas Laing. Only 289 bottles were released.

The Distillery Edit

The Old Fettercairn distillery (a.k.a. Fettercairn or Nethermill distillery) was built in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay who rebuilt it between 1887 and 1890 after it was damaged by a fire. During the 19th century, the distillery, like many in Scotland, has had a long history of many owners and fallow periods.

Fettercairn stopped producing between 1926 & 1939, and during this period, it was acquired by Associated Scottish Distilleries Ltd, a subsidiary of Train & McIntyre Ltd. Production continued until closed again in 1960. In 1966, production restarted and the number of stills was extended from two to four.

Fettercairn was then acquired by the Tomintoul-Glenlivet Distillery Co. Ltd. in 1971 (owned by W. & S. Strong & Co. and Hay & MacLeod & Co. at the time). Just two years later Fettercairn and Tomintoul distilleries were sold to and became part part of Whyte & Mackay Distillers Ltd.

n 1974 Whyte & Mackay were purchased by 'Lonhro' who then move on to sell to Brent Walker Group plc. in 1988. Then, in 1990, Whyte & Mackay Distillers is purchased by American Brands, renamed to JBB Greater Europe plc. in 1995. This company was bought by Kyndal International Ltd. in 2001, who shortly afterwards decided to change their name to Whyte & Mackay Ltd. In 2007, Whyte and Mackay were bought by Indian tycoon Vijay Mallya, the current owner.
